More than three trillion US dollars in illicit funds flowed through the global financial system in 2023, fuelled by and sustaining a range of destructive crimes according to a report published by Nasdaq, the online global marketplace for buying and trading securities.

The Global Financial Crime Report 2024 points to trade-based money laundering (TBML) as one of the typologies used in particular by drug traffickers to conceal, channel and legitimise criminal proceeds.
